Puntarenas

Plantations of African palm, craggy peaks along Burica Point, seasonal cultivated fields, second growth grasslands, gorges, alluvial plains, marshes and picturesque villages are some of the features of the landscape that can be admired along the steep road that leads from Ciudad Neily, on the River Coto Colorado plain, to the village Campo Dos y Medio on the Brunqueña ridge, 900 metres above sea level.

The road winds between steep limestone and lutite hills in the heart of the Costeña Mountain Range, a massif 1,704 metres high, which emerged from the seabed over 5 million years ago. As the road climbs, there are changes in climate, vegetation and land use. A new different world is entered, only a few minutes away from the stiffling plain and a short distance from the prosperous Coto Brus Valley.
