Guanacaste

This is a freshwater lagoon that presents rather different conditions to other lagoons in the region because brackish water from the Tempisque river flows into it. A large number of water birds frequent this habitat, for example, great egret (Casmerodius albus), snowy egret (Egretta thula) and white ibis (Eudocimus albus). Traveling by boat along the Tempisque river near Puerto Humo and taking the channel that drains it is the best means of access to this wetland.
