Entrepreurs Who Made It Big
One friend of ours, Wayne Daniels from New York, has made a good living building homes and condos in Escazú. He was a millionaire in his own right before moving to Costa Rica. He proudly says, “If I had moved here twenty years ago, I would probably own this whole country by now.”
Casey Halloran, who is in his eary twenties, founded the successful Costa Rica Yellow Pages a successful Internet consulting company specializing in web page design and promotion on the web. Casey’s company continues to grow by leaps and bounds and his reputation grows. Several other enterprising foreigners have founded similar companies here.
Another acquaintance, Pat from Texas, started out with nothing and parlayed a small business loan into three downtown bars and a small hotel. Success did not come overnight for him. He worked from early morning well into the night almost every day for about five years. He still puts in a good days work to keep his small empire thriving by staying on top on all of his businesses.
One North American started a fishing newsletter and another a thriving U.S. style sports bar. The latter is tired of working so hard for the last ten years and his business is for sale for about a half of a million dollars. A nice profit considering he only invested $100,000 ten years ago and has had months where he pocketed as much as $10,000.
Bruce and Harry from the U.S. just opened a nightclub in Heredia catering to college students and young adults. Their business should flourish given their 20 years of prior experience in the Philippines.
Please see the side bar which describes the lives of other foreigners who have found success in Costa Rica.
