Alajuela

15 kilometres north of Alajuela via San Isidro - Dulce Nombre - Fraijanes.

This small recreation area located at the southern foothills of Poás Volcano in a scenic site of strawberry fields, flowers and grasslands. It includes 18 hectaresof forest, trails, look-outs, playgrounds and campfire sites. It is run by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

The main attraction is the small Fraijanes Lagoon (1.5 ha), which dates from 1889, when a strong tremor shifted earth and mud in such a way as to uncover an ancient lakebed that had been sealed by human interference. Another attractive feature is the cool climate adn fresh air, especially during the dry season.
