Cartago
This is part of the middle basin of the River Pacuare. It is a very wet area where a large part of the original forest has been conserved. The vegetation consists of very moist forests, both lowland and intermediate, in which some of the highest trees are the espave (Anacardium excelsum) and the nargusta (Terminalia oblonga). Cats are very common in this protection zone. Several of the dirt tracks that branch off from the Turrialba-Siquirres highway offer views of the forest and go as far as the bed of the Pacuare.
