This consists of the Mata de Limón mangrove swamp, the Tivives lagoon where the river Jesús María discharges, the small Las Flores lagoon and a wide beach alongside which houses have been built. The wild part of this protection zone is mainly made up of extensive mangrove swamps comprising, above all, red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) where several bird species nest, for example, cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis). Access is via a partly asphalted and partly grit road leading from the port of Caldera.
