This reserve is part of the Enrique Jiménez Nuñez Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. It is covered in dry and gallery forest. The ear tree (Enterolobium cyclocarpum), the national tree, is very common here. The wealth of birds is considerable. Herons, egrets and doves are very common. The threatened jabiru (Jabiru mycteria) also nests here. Other abundant species are the white-faced capuchin (Cebus capucinus) and the common raccoon (Procyon lotor). It is situated 5 km south of Cañas. There are various paths through the reserve.
