This constitutes a permanent lacustrine wetland made up of several large and small lagoons and a swamp forest. It is an ideal spot to watch birds such as black-bellied whistling ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis), very abundant kingfishers (Chloroceryle sp.) and wood storks (Mycteria americana). A common mammal in this wetland, which has disappeared from most of the country’s rivers and swamps, is the otter (Lontra longicaudis). A dirt track goes from the landing strip at San Vito to this wetland.
