Guanacaste

This protects the drainage basins that supply the city of Abangares with water. The Abangares river rises in the premontane secondary forests that cover a sizeable part of this protection zone. Here you can find one of the places of greatest historic interest in the whole country : the Abangares Goldmines Ecomuseum. Some dirt tracks lead out of Abangares and allow you to go a little way into this protection zone.
