A representative from Costa Rican Trails will meet you at the airport baggage area and assist you through customs. Day 02 Floating Sarapiquí River Tour - (Class I-II) An incredible and pristine nature adventure! This 7.5 mile tour is done in safe river rafts between the small communities of Chilamate and Puerto Viejo. It is an interesting special for birds watchers, tropical jungle admirers and good for people of all ages, even for little children. Previous experience is not required and tourists can take pictures or videos, or just observe through binoculars as well. Our experienced naturalist guide recognizes more than 25 bird species that live within the Sarapiqui River waters. We use row and motor boats which permit our guests to enjoy the trip silently without disturbing the animals so you can enjoy the incredible landscape and get the best of pictures. Breakfast is included Day 03 (San Jose - Tortuguero) Early morning pick up for the drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park to the canals lining the Atlantic Coast, where the three-hour boat trip to Tortuguero starts. A typical breakfast is served on the way. Tortuguero National Park preserves 21,000 hectares of tropical rain forest. The lodge will schedule boat trips into the jungle for wildlife observation with a local tour guide. Overnight either at Evergreen or Laguna Lodge, Tortuguero, 01 Quad. standard room. All meals are included. Day 04 (Tortuguero National Park) Morning and afternoon boat trips through the canals of Tortuguero. Day 05 (Tortuguero – Arenal) After lunch, a representative of a rent-a-car will bring you a RAV 4 or Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 , drive on your own to the Arenal area. (Approximate driving time 2.5 hours) One of the most active volcanoes of the world, cloud forests, a lake world-famous for windsurfing and an incredibly diverse population of wildlife is what you will find in this La Fortuna / Arenal Volcano area. The flawless silhouette of Arenal Volcano, its loud rumblings and frequent explosions of lava and ash are a sight not to be missed by any visitor to Costa Rica. Overnight at Arenal Paraiso Hotel, 01 Quad. Superior room, breakfast included. Day 06 Arenal 4 in 1 tour (Hanging Bridges or Safari Float + Waterfall by car + Arenal Hike + Hot Springs)) For the first activity, the visitor has a choice between two activities: the Hanging Bridges and the Safari Float. Then, on to La Fortuna Waterfall by car. The waterfall is about 70 m. high, and there is just a 600 m walk to get there. After that, lunch is served in La Fortuna. At around 15:00, on to the Arenal National Park, where the guide will explain about the natural and geological history of the area. Last, a relaxing bath at the Hot Springs, and a delicious dinner. Day 07 (Arenal –Monteverde) Morning drive on to Monteverde Cloud Forest area (Approximate driving time: 3.5 hours) Monteverde was founded about 40 years ago by a small group of conservation-minded Quakers who were looking for a peaceful place to live. Its cloud forest reserve is one of the most outstanding wild life sanctuaries in the tropics. This high elevation rain forest offers miles of trails with excellent opportunities for bird watching. The resplendent Quetzal is often sighted up here (mostly January to July). It is for this reason that more visitors are attracted to this private reserve than to any other in Costa Rica. At approximately 1:00pm, you will be picked up for the Walkways, Insect Museum, Hummingbird Garden tour. These Tree Top Walkways are the best system of suspension bridges that exist in Costa Rica. The bridge system is located along a 1 .7 mile trail designed to be walked by people of all ages and consists of 8 suspension bridges going 90% through primary cloud forest. In the Insect Museum, you can observe more than 50 species of butterflies from different altitudes and climates on a guided tour. In the Hummingbird Garden the visitor can observe more than 14 species of hummingbirds surrounded by waterfalls and natural floral arrangements. Includes: Transportation, lunch, entrance fees & bilingual guide Duration: Half day Overnight at Sapo Dorado, 01 Sunset/Fountain room, breakfast is included. Day 08 Sendero Tranquilo hiking tour. At 07:00am you will meet your guide at the lobby and transportation will be provided to the Tranquilo Trail location, a private property which borders the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve and specializes in personalized guided tours to learn about the cloudforest, away from other crowded areas. The tour includes a 3-hour easy hiking on natural trails and private tour guide. You need to bring hiking boots or tennis shoes, light raincoat and comfortable clothing, camera and a bottle of water. Overnight at Sapo Dorado, 01 Sunset/Fountain room, breakfast is included. Day 09 (Monteverde- Tamarindo) Drive on your own to Tamarindo area (Approximate driving time: 4 hours) Both nature and beach lovers will find plenty here to fill their days. Tamarindo is famous for its stunning beaches, its marine national park and wildlife refuge. This area encompasses beaches that attract one of the largest leatherback turtle populations in the world. Peak nesting seasons in the area are October through March. Due to its constant waves, it is also one of the favorite places for surfers. Day 9-13 (Tamarindo) Relax on the beach or take a tour available in the area. 04 nights at Cala Luna Hotel & Villas, 01 Quad. Deluxe room, breakfast included. Day 13 (Tamarindo – San Jose) Drive on your own back to San Jose. Approximate driving time: 4.5 hours Return the car at the hotel no later than 5:00pm. Overnight at Country Inn & Suites, 01 Quad. Superior Room. Breakfast is included. Day 14 (Departure) Transfer will be provided to the San Jose International Airport.
