On the way to La Paz Waterfall Gardens you will see many local communities, farms and part of the continental divide. A beautiful river rushes over five waterfalls while winding threw a lush tropical rainforest. Your next adventure is Poas, a compound basaltic volcano that towers 2,708 meters above sea level. This volcano has two craters, the main crater measures 1.5 kilometers in diameter and is 300 meters deep. The crater of Poas is also the third largest, active crater in the world. It has a circular hot-water lake at the bottom, 350 meters in diameter, and a cinder cone 40 meters high with very active fumaroles. The second crater is the seat of a cold-water lake, Botos, which clearly originates from rainfall and drains into the Caribbean by means of the Angel River, a tributary of the Sarapiquí River.
