As you travel from the lowlands of the Caribbean through the scenic roads of Costa Rica to the Tropical Rain Forest. The creation of the Rain Forest Aerial Tram is born out of preoccupation to reach the tree tops of the rainforest where numerous plant and animal species live, some of them virtually unknown to man. The canopy has always been a difficult obstacle, even for explorers; therefore, little scientific investigation has been conducted into the life of these tropical trees. This unique Eco-tourism and research project opened in October 1994. The aerial tram will take you through the hanging gardens of the canopy (the upper level of the forest). Here, you will discover plants and birds usually hidden in the treetops. The canopy, which is thought to house two-thirds of all rainforest species, is a little-known world of incredible beauty and extraordinary biological diversity. In addition to the exuberant plant life, the park is home to white-faced monkeys, spectacled owls, toucans, agoutis (a neo-tropical rodent with long hind legs), and amphibians and reptiles including several species of frogs and fer-de-lance vipers. You may also have the rare opportunity to see the Quetzal, this beautiful bird, originally from Guatemala, was hunted to almost extinction for their beautiful plumage. The rain forest of Costa Rica is a refuge for these birds and offers a protected area to nests. After this exciting morning you will be driven to an authentic Costa Rican restaurant where you will have the opportunity to taste a typical meal. This restaurant has just been newly renovated and two very large fish tanks have been added. On your return trip to your hotel relax with a class of champagne and enjoy the tropical landscape of Costa Rica’s Caribbean lowlands.
