The following information refers to the different covers or responsibilities offered by Europcar Costa Rica to its customers, which are listed below:


LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER (LDW)

The LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER covers Europcars vehicle in cases of accident, overturn or collisions with another movable or unmovable object or any animal, or those caused by running over persons, total theft or total loss. This is the ONLY cover with an excess, whose amount depends on the category of vehicle. LDW coverage includes CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), and THW (Theft Waiver). The excess amount must be held on the main drivers credit card during the rental. No cash deposits are allowed. We highly recommend purchasing SLI (Supplemental Liability Cover) at $15 daily, which will provide coverage to third parties up to $210,000 USD.

LDW cover is mandatory when the customer cannot present valid proof of credit card coverage in Latin America, Costa Rica, in off-road conditions and for the category requested. LDW does not apply for tires and windshield, or partial theft of original parts or components of the automobile.


ADDITIONAL DRIVER

The Additional Driver optional cover guarantees that all insurances taken by the main driver will be also applicable to any additional drivers.

SUPER LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER

The SUPER LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER, optional and additional, frees the customer from all liability for paying damages or excess amount in case of accident, theft, or total loss, except in cases of negligence.

This insurance must be requested for each rental contract, and Europcar reserves the right to suspend it at any time if it considers it is being misused.

Negligence: Acting in an irresponsible and deliberate manner that causes damages to Europcar’s vehicle, such as violating any Traffic Law, speeding, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or driving through rivers, sea water, beaches or inlets.

COMMON NEGLIGENCE CASES:

  • Improper advances, which cause collisions or vehicle flip over.
  • Running over red lights, which may result in collisions or vehicle flip over.
  • Driving at a higher speed than what is established by Law for the particular road.
  • Leaving keys on car doors or on the ignition while vehicle is unattended, leaving doors open or unlocked during absence.
  • When the vehicle is parked in a “no parking” zone or in a place where theft or damage of the vehicle is fomented.

This cover is not applicable for tires or personal belongings inside vehicle.

PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE

The PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE, optional and additional, applies to all passengers in Europcar’s vehicle, including the driver. No excess is applied. It includes the Public Liability Policy, covering all public liability not covered by the contract, which may be generated by the car rental service offered to the insured party within national territory. It also includes the Automobile Seat Policy, which applies to both the vehicle’s driver as well as the other occupants, and covers bodily injuries due to the unexpected action of any violent, fortuitous, and sudden external agent.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Our station is located in Paseo Colón, which is the main entrance to San José from the Airport. Take the main highway downtown (16 km) and make a left at the traffic lights located in front of the Sabana Park. We are two blocks down on your right hand side, next to “Subway” restaurant.

2 : CENTRAL HEADQUARTERS AND RETURN STATION

HOW TO GET THERE:

FROM AIRPORT: taking the main highway that leads to San Jose, drive until the exit to Intel., where you must make an exit to the right. When you get to Intel, make a left. and then go under the bridge. After going under the bridge, take the first left and then drive 100 mts.

FROM SAN JOSE: taking the main highway to the airport, take the exit to Marriott Hotel which is right in front of Servicentro La Ribera, and turn left 50 mts.

3 : AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE
