Irazú Volcano and La Basilica of Cartago:
This trip begins ascending the breathtaking summit of the Irazú Volcano for a view of the masive crater. On a clear day you can actually see the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans!

The Irazú Volcano, towers 3,432 meters over the sea level and is the highest peak in the Central Volcanic Mountain Range and has been inactive for the last forty years. The winding road that leads to the summit of the volcano passes breathtaking scenery and provides glimpses of country life in one of the most fertile agricultural regions of Costa Rica.

After the volcano, the tours decends to the former capital of Cartago, where agricultural products from local farms are sold at the picturesque market. The tour includes visit en-route of Cartagos most important landmark, La Basilica de la Virgen de Los Angeles, which holds the statue of the nation's patron saint La Negrita, and is the site of an annual pilgrimage by hundreds of thousands of Costa Ricans and Central American Catholics.

Lancaster Botanical Gardens and Orosi Valley:
Lancaster Gardens holds one of the region's largest collections of bromeliads, ferns orchids and other tropical plants, which attract more than a hundred species of birds and allow the visitor to enjoy the beauty of nature at its best.

After this wonderful introduction to the country's flora, the tour continues to the town of Paraiso, where the statue of the former Patron Saint of Costa Rica, La Virgen de la Purisima Concepción del Rescate de Ujarras is housed in a modern church. The Virgin is attributed with the miracle of rescuing the country from pirates who invaded the Caribbean Coast in the 1600s. The story of the miracle is recorded in paintings on the walls of the church.

The next stop is at the Mirador de Ujarras, with an impressive scenic view of the enchanting Orosi Valley.
