Fruits, vegetables and fish larger than life!
Mario Madrigal is an interesting and upbeat person, swims and jogs, and loves to show his paintings. Recently, he has been expressing in larger than life representations of fruits, vegetables and fish. In this mode, he often uses "pastels," a colored chalk that produces very intense colors, as there is little medium to dilute their color vibrancy, as there can be in oils or acrylics. Mario’s work is influenced by his boyhood in Nicaragua, where he frequently visited an archeological dig next to his father’s farm.
![]() Artists do have favorites. Mario explained that the work to the right, he re-purchased from a client, (by creating another acceptable work for him), because this was his favorite painting! Although difficult to see here, there is a marked relief to the painting, not from raised paint, but created by layered colors that create an illusion of physical depth. It's amazing to examine it from a distance, and them up close, to lightly touch it, to see that the apparent physical relief is just an illusion. Returning home was a flurry of thoughtful, artistic exchanges about the day, then introspection. Costa Rica has so many natural wonders to experience...and not least of all, the local art community. Recommendation: Enjoy one of Ms. Keeler's art tours. I did! And, I will again. Forrest Costa Rica Art - Adventure Tour Reservations
