It´s a hike for active hikers! Cerro Chato is the beginning of the Arenal Mountain Range, it´s an old dormant volcano with similar characteristics to the Arenal Volcano. Cerro Chato´s last active period was 3500 years ago.
You will hike through lush rain forest and pasture lands, and witness spectacular scenic views. This is a transition forest area where you will begin to see the Tropical Rain Forest (taller trees, dense vegetation and rich biodiversity). Then we will witness the Cloud Forest; see epiphytes, ferns, orquids, sometimes spot toucans and birds, very similar to Monteverde´s cloud forest characteristics. After a little rest we begin to descend to La Fortuna waterfall, this is the result of an emerging area of the formation of the Cerro Chato and Arenal Volcanoes. After we arrive at Fortuna´s waterfall we will enjoy a delicious box lunch including sandwiches and fruit. Your reward, at the bottom, if you wish, is a swim in the magnificent and powerful, la Fortuna Waterfall.
