IRAZU AND TURRIALBA VOLCANOES

At Turrialba visitors can experience an array of natural attractions and exciting tours! The best white water rafting is at the Pacuare River. The river is known not only for its exciting rides but also for its scenic beauty as it is lined up with lush tropical forests, spectacular waterfalls, and abundant wildlife. On the slopes of the Turrialba Volcano lies Guayabo National Monument, the most significant archaeological discovery in Costa Rica: ancient pre-Columbian ruins set in the middle of a sacred rainforest. Turrialba is a charming small and colorful town with gorgeous surrounding sceneries and it is also one of the world's foremost facilities for research into tropical agriculture.

Day 2 : Rafting Río Pacuare

The Pacuare River is ranked as one of the top five rivers in the world to white water raft. What earns the Pacuare River this acclaim is its eighteen miles of class III and class IV rapids and some of the most breathtaking scenery in all of Costa Rica.
You will enjoy the thrill of the rapids, as well as the natural beauty that surrounds the river such as cascading waterfalls and a variety of tropical flora and fauna. We provide experienced, specialized rafting guides, top of the line equipment, and a day full of safe and exciting adventures on the Rio Pacuare.
We begin the tour near the little town of Tres Equis located one hour east of Turrialba. Before entering the river, our guides give an important safety talk, familiarizing rafters with the necessary commands and safety instructions that you will need on the river. Afterwards you are off to enjoy the thrill of the rapids; we also stop along to way to hike up waterfalls located in hidden canyons and to better enjoy some of the wildlife that we see along the way.
Halfway through the tour there is a stop at our camp with a tremendous view of the Pacuare and the surrounding mountains for a delicious meal. After lunch, you continue your adventure down the river, braving more rapids and taking in the awesome surroundings. The tour stops when you reach a bridge in the town of Siquirres.

Night at Hotel Wagelia (B,L)

Day 3 : Morning Mountain Bike Volcán Irazú - Turrialba

We will leave early in the morning from the hotel and travel toward the colossus Irazú Volcano, the place where the tour will begin by mountain bike to the town of Turrialba. This voyage is approximately 50 kms, 90% of which is downhill. An excellent view will accompany us for the entire journey. This volcano is one of the most visited areas of the area, so much by the national tourists as international.
The Irazú Volcano is an active volcano with a long history of eruptive cycles and is an area of great hydrological importance. From this volcano several rivers that feed the basins of the Chirripó River are born. These include the Reventazón River, the Sarapiquí River, and the Grande de Tárcoles River.
Drop off at Guayabo Lodge (in case of having a car rental after tour drive to Guayabo Lodge is a very nice ride). Rest of the afternoon to enjoy the area.

Night at Guayabo Lodge 1 standard room (B,L)

Day 4 : Morning Guayabo Arqueological Site

The Guayabo National Monument is Costa Rica's most important archaeological site. Costa Rica may not be famous for its archaeological history like Guatemala's Tikal or the Incan ruins of Peru, but veiled in the shadow of the Turrialba Volcano - like a mythical "lost city" from a storybook - lies a mysterious ancient city that was home to over 10,000 people who seemed to have mysteriously vanished just before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century.
The excavations at Guayabo have revealed a network of cobblestone causeways and streets, open and closed aqueducts, cisterns, stairways, mounds, petroglyphs, monoliths, tombs, and sculptures that belong to a pre-Columbian city, which was inhabited between 1000 B.C. and 1400 A.D. For your tour a guide will walk you through the entire park while explaining the findings of the excavations and the history of the people that once lived there
Afternoon Horseback Riding Volcán Turrialba
For this trip, riders are driven to a small town of Atirro, located 15 minutes away from Turrialba. You'll be provided with trained horses and a guide will give a description of the tour.
During the 2 hour tour riders will pass sugar cane and coffee plantations and secondary forest. In the forest, the guides will explain about flora and fauna. You may see a variety of birds, sloths and monkeys. Riders will stop to take a break and enjoy a scenic lookout, where the whole Turrialba valley and surrounding mountains can be seen.

Night at Guayabo Lodge
