Day 3 : Morning Horseback Riding to Volcán Turrialba
For this trip, riders are driven to the Volcán Turrialba Lodge, located about 1/2 hour from Guayabo Lodge to start the tour.. You'll be provided with trained horses and a guide will give a description of the tour. During the 2 hour tour riders may see a variety of birds and enjoy wonderful scenery. Riders will stop to take a break and enjoy a scenic lookout, where the whole Turrialba valley and surrounding mountains can be seen.
In the afternoon visit the Coffee, Macadamia nut and Sugarcane Plantation
Walk through Sitio de Mata Village in Turrialba, you will find a church with stained glass windows over a century old, enchanting gardens, an orchid green house . You will also participate in the processing of the products of coffee plants, sugar cane, and macadamia nuts. Look at the complicated steps in preparing macadamias-which are just shaken from the trees during harvest-then are immersed in water (the best sink, while the others float), hand-selected, then roasted for you to taste: salted, sugared or chocolate coated!
This excursion into the rural Costa Rica of yesteryear is a vivid and remarkable experience, part of which is our organically cultivated brown sugar, including the typical tapa dulce, or brown sugar cakes made in wooden molds. Be sure to take a taste! You will drink our own gourmet coffee prepared by a professional barista, or coffee specialist, and finish with an exotic cocktail featuring our coffee liqueur, organic brown sugar and macadamia essence. Lunch is included in this tour.
