Support tropical research and studies !!

The biodiversity of this corner of the world is well respected, yet there is still much to learn. The third mission of Proyecto Campanario is to support tropical research and studies to not only enrich our understanding of the natural environment, but to encourage sustainable land use on the Osa Peninsula. Research findings are key to both. Proposed research may be anything from a formal on-going university-sponsored investigation, to a short-term personal interest study carried out during your stay at the Campanario Biological Reserve. Please contact the Proyecto Campanario office in San Jose for details concerning research approval.

We generally encourage collaborative efforts between one or more Costa Rican universities and universities from outside Costa Rica. In the same manner, you, as a researcher, should consider cross-cultural teams of investigators, assistants, and field personnel. We also request that you provide us a copy of research findings generated from your work at Campanario for use in local conservation efforts as well as for distribution to other appropriate Costa Rican institutions.

All researchers wishing to carry out a formal investigation need to submit a written proposal for review and approval to ensure feasibility of the study and to guarantee no negative long-term impacts. Please contact the Proyecto Campanario office in San Jose for details concerning the research approval process, cooperation with Costa Rican universities and scientists, facilities and equipment available at the Reserve and at the San Jose office, and costs and budgeting. Observe with first-hand experience.

Internships for biologists!!
Internships for biologists at the Campanario Biological Reserve are periodically offered when researchers are in residence and/or are carrying out long-term studies during which interns are invaluable to maintain the continuity of the study over time. Interns are considered assistants to the researcher and need to follow the established plan of the study. Please inquire with the San José office as to opportunities and rates.
Volunteer opportunities!!
There are frequent opportunities for volunteers, local and international, to stay at Campanario, exchanging part of their room and meal fees for work in and around the field station and the reserve. In addition to experiencing life in a tropical rain forest, they work together with the Campanario staff on trail interpretation, species inventories and monitoring, trail maintenance, field station maintenance, etc. There are also plenty of opportunities for relaxation. Arrangements and scheduling must be made with the Campanario office in San José.
