Driving from San José, take the Atlantic Coast highway # 32 that passes through Braulio Carrillo National Park, Guapiles , Siquirres and Matina. There are no roads to Tortuguero, so you must take an exciting boat trip through the Tortuguero Canals. A hotel embarkation will pick you up either at Matina, Siquirres or Caño Blanco, depending on water level.

From June to October the prime turtle season brings thousands of Atlantic Green Sea Turtles to the beaches of Tortuguero. Leatherback and Hawksbill Sea Turtles, in lesser numbers, arrive to lay eggs from December to March. Come and look for Sea Turtles, along with Monkeys, Parrots, Toucans, Blue Morphus butterflies, colorful Poison Dart frogs, Three-toed Sloths and many other wonderful rainforest creatures.
