- Picture a resort that looks as if it grew naturally out of a sloping hillside, hidden below the treetops in a forest with a year-round kaleidoscope of flowering trees, golden hues and lush evergreens. That image clearly depicts Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, blending seamlessly into the tropical dry forest surrounded by water on both sides. “The natural beauty, flora and fauna of Costa Rica influenced the design of Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica,” said Architect Ronald Zurcher, of Zurcher Arquitectos in Costa Rica. “The exteriors reflect the shapes and textures of leatherback sea turtles, armadillos, iguanas, butterflies and birds and the finished product looks as if ‘Mother Nature’ carved it out of the hillside a long time ago.”
Where Luxury and Nature Meet
- The Resort’s unique architecture is inspired by natural flora and fauna – and carefully follows Costa Rica’s very stringent environmental standards to create a retreat that blends in with its surroundings. Sensitively integrated in the mountain, the Resort’s clay-coloured structures blend seamlessly amid 30 hectares (45 acres) of evergreens, deciduous trees and flowering plants. No building is taller than the treetops.
On the west slope, guest rooms are spread out in three low-level buildings near the water, while private villas and suites are perched above in separate units. Between the beaches lie the Resort’s lobby, restaurants, spa and meeting space, all on the east side. Colourful gardens and meandering walkways interconnect the property for pleasant strolls and easy access to all facilities.
Design Inspired by Nature The 153 generously sized guest rooms and suites are imaginatively crafted with indigenous woods and stone finishes. Each room provides a spacious outdoor terrace or balcony living area, with water views, each within its own mesmerizing vista. Sliding, louvered doors between sleeping and living spaces maximise privacy and invite the flow of fresh sea breezes. Residential-style furnishings and décor draw their inspiration from the water and land. Four Seasons signature beds are covered in luxurious Frette linens.
