El Sapo Dorado is located in the Tilarán Mountains 114 miles northwest of San José.
To drive here, take the Inter-American Highway north from San José to the 149 kilometer road marker. Turn right just before crossing the Río Lagarto and continue up the gravel road for 35 kilometers. The trip will take about four hours, but the scenery is beautiful and there are towns along the way.
If you prefer, El Sapo Dorado offers private, round-trip microbus service from the airport, to the lodge, or from the lodge to anywhere in Costa Rica. Transportation may be pre-arrenged by calling hotel reception.
