Question. What's a "sapo dorado"?
Sapo Dorado frog of
 the Monteverde Rainforest, Costa Rica
"Sapo dorado" in Spanish means "golden toad". The bright orange, golden toad was first documented by Herpetologist Jay Savage over thirty years ago. Sightings are rare and it is now believed to be possibly extinct.

A word about your hosts:

Two cultures came together in El Sapo Dorado's owners / managers, Geovanny Arguedas and Hannah Lowther. Geovanny's grandparents were four of the original Costa Rican settlers on the mountain, and his extended family lives and farms in the area today. Geovanny has worked in agricultural diversification locally, the tourism industry throughout Costa Rica, and today is a member of various local and national commissions working for sustainable development and conservation. He speaks fluent English.

Hannah, a North American, was raised in the Quaker community of Monterverde, attended universities in the United States and England, and is experienced in international food and lodging services. A vegetarian for many years, Hannah has created a menu for El Sapo Dorado based on her original recipes. A founder of Monteverde's Creative Learning Center, she has devoted much time to local education projects. She and Geovanny were childhood friends in the Quaker school in Monteverde. They later married and their family now offers you a taste of both cultures to enhance your visit to a tropical rainforest. They work to encourage respect and appreciation for the natural environment. El Sapo Dorado is a "hands on" operation for both of them, and their facility is a favorite relaxing get-a-way for local embassy dignitaries and their guests.
