The Fonda Vela Hotel is located in the beautiful Monteverde part of Costa Rica, famous for birdwatching and the resplendent Quetzals. There ia a natural abundance of orchids, and, of course, the mysterious cloud forest. The climate is refreshing, many times referred to as "the eternal spring". At Fonda Vela, you will be able to see views of the Gulf of Nicoya from the hotel's 4,600 foot elevation! One should plan a visit of at least two nights at Fonda Vela in Monteverde to truly experience the majesty of this area.

The Fonda Vela Hotel has nine buildings situated on our landscaped property, and all are designed with natural lighting, privacy and rich wood warmth. All have large windows with views of our forest, allowing the outside beauty to be a part of the natural, cozy interior.

On our 35-acre property, you will find lush forests and verdant pastures that are excellent for birdwatching, hiking or just relaxing. In the tranquil setting of Fonda Vela, you may see parrots and emerald toucans that stop to feed in the fruit bearing trees. Horses graze lazily in the pasture below. A 15-minute walk away is the world famous 25,000 acre Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The Santa Elena Reserve is also a short drive away.
