How to Get There:

Monteverde, Puntarenas
From San José, take the Inter-American Highway north for about 138km. 1.3 km after passing the restaurant Cuenca and Rio Aranjuez (Aranjuez River), use the right turn only lane to turn right onto the paved road to the small town of Sardinal. In Sardinal, turn left at the soccer field onto another paved road. Proceed to the village of Guacimal (the pavement ends about halfway between Sardinal and Guacimal). At the "T" intersection in Guacimal, turn right to Santa Elena. From Santa Elena, continue to Monteverde. Follow the Fonda Vela and/or Monteverde Reserve signs to the Hotel Fonda Vela. The Hotel is about 1km past the Monteverde Cheese Factory and 2km before the Monteverde Reserve. The entrance to the Hotel is on the right side of the road

Activities
During certain months the Fonda Vela is excellent for seeing Resplendent Quetzal, Three-waltted Bellbird and Keel-billed toucans. Horses graze in the pasture below. A 15-minute walk away is the world famous 10,500-hectare Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The Santa Elena Reserve is a short drive away where you may observe the Arenal Volcano on a clear day.

Conference Room
Our meeting rooms seat 50 people and have balconies overlooking the forest. Every day at 6 pm. We present a slide show of Monteverde's Quaker history and secrets of the cloud forest. The slide show was prepared by Bobby Maxson and the cost is $5 per person.
