Southern Pacific Hotels
This region of Costa Rica has long been overlooked by tourism, due to the challenging infrastructure associated with it. That hasn't changed much, however the stretch of highway, from Dominical to approximately Puerto Cortez is fabulous. This area of the southern Pacific region, from Dominical, Uvita, Ojochal and south toward Puerto Jimenez in the Osa Peninsula is slowly becoming extremely popular with vacationers. There are hotels of all varieties. Some are small boutique hotels, others are simple cabinas (cabins.) There are not many larger, multi-room establishments, which seem to be in keeping with the rustic, tropical appeal of the area. There are many excellent restaurants and lovely beaches to enjoy this very different ambiance, while you vacation in the diversity that is Costa Rica.
Moving further down the coast, at about Puerto Cortez the landscape changes and the road comes to an end. From here, you are obliged to take a small water craft (panga) to your hotel or resort destination. This makes for some very interesting scenery and a lot of excitement and anticipation upon arrival. The biodiversity of this region is unimaginable. The flora and fauna that abounds is indescribable…this is not for the luxury bound, however, there are a couple of very exclusive, all-inclusive resorts in this area, that are not to be missed. However, most, if not all have to be all-inclusive, due to the lack of outside enterprises - restaurants. Hotels are one of a kind and offer the finest cuisine, based on fresh fish and homegrown fruits and vegetables.
Many of the hotels and B&B's in this area are self contained, due to the fact that there is no local power of water companies to supply the needed power and water. This really creates a romantic atmosphere for those travelers who prefer to be away from civilization and the crowd. Nightlife here is a candle lit dinner and some star-gazing…enjoy.
