A Day In The Life Of A Guanacaste Resident PANTADERIA !

By
Laura Hahn
April - May 2002

At first I wasn’t going to write anything on this subject. But, the more I started thinking about it, the more ideas started coming to my head. Yes, I am writing about women’s underwear.

The other day the dog stole my underwear !

the dog stole my underwear

What got me to thinking about this “unmentionable” subject was the other day the dog stole my underwear while I was in the shower. I shouted to my husband to save my underwear and to close the screen door, the dog zoomed through his legs and outside. Jim eventually found my undies, some socks and a slipper.

You think I would have learned my lesson to not throw my dirty clothes on the floor while in the shower, but I did it again today. Off they went again, but this time the screen door was shut. But, my story today isn’t about being a slob, it’s about underwear.

Everywhere you turn there are stores selling women’s lingerie. Jim, my husband calls them pantaderias, like carnaceria (butcher), panaderia (bakery). I’m sure you get his meaning. I’ve stopped at these shops to only find the polyester underwear. Now somebody please explain to me the comfort in wearing polyester or nylon underwear in Guanacaste? Do these people not realize how hot it is here?

Another thing, what is it with the “V” shaped underwear? Everywhere you go you see women with “V” panty lines. Can’t they make underwear that covers a person’s rear end? I just don’t get it. Needless to say, I bring my 100% cotton underwear from the states.

Since I’ve lowered myself to the subject of underwear, let’s not stop there and move on up to bras. I have a few gripes on this subject also. Bras come in all different shapes and sizes. The manufacturers have become quite creative and do a pretty good job of having a large variety of product for women to choose from. So why can’t I find a plain, cotton bra? I don’t want one that smooshes everything into one blob. I don’t want one that pushes everything up to my chin. Please, just the basics.
