Junquillal is an excellent refuge for seabirds such as the brown pelican and the magnificent frigatebird. Furthermore, olive ridley, hawsbill, green and leatherback turtles use its beaches for laying their eggs. The transparent water, the wide and lovely beach, that extends over 2 km, the gentle breeze and the plentyful sunshine make it an ideal place for sunbathing and boating. There are also paths that provide views of the seabirds, the Guanacaste mountains and and the loveley little bay. One of the paths leads to the mangrove swamp, which is a maze of species that have adapted to the saltwater and tides. From this path one can see the Orosí Volcano, a dormant one that rises 1,485 meters above sea level. It marks the westernmost end of the central mountain chain in Costa Rica.
