Cartago

This lagoon, important for the protection of both migratory and resident birds, is surrounded by primary and secondary forests. It contains many species of fish, some of them endemic, which are skilfully caught by birds like the great blue heron (Ardea herodias), the largest migratory heron in the country. A dirt track goes from Conceptción, near San Vito, to this lagoon.
