To really see Costa Rica, you better rent a car !!
Never a ship sails out of the bay But carries my heart as a stowaway ~ Roselle Mercier Montgomery, writer, 1874-1933ACar Rentals Renting a car is a good way to get around Costa Rica. It’s a small country; consequently many parts of it are within easy driving distance. Roads are generally well marked, although rarely with the route numbers you see on maps. Instead, occasional signs along the road tell you the number of kilometers to a larger city. Major routes are well paved and easy to follow.
Remark of 1CostaRicaLink.com: If you plan to go to Tortuguero, do that in the beginning or the end of your stay. You cannot drive a car there. Take a domestic flight or the Hotels will pick you up in San José which is normally included in the package. Here is the link to many Car Rental companies.
