Beaches
The coconut trees, lithe and graceful, crowd the beach...

The beaches (playas, pronounced PLY-yahs) of Costa Rica are as
diverse as the country itself – you’ll find a mixed bag of soft
white sand, black volcanic sand, pebble beaches, brown or gray
gritty sand, muddy mangroves, rocky outcroppings, soft lapping
waves, roaring surf, hidden reefs, spectacular dawns and breathtaking
sunsets.
If you are looking for a beach vacation with lots of sun, sand and surf, the
beaches of Guanacaste, on the Nicoya Peninsula, offer some of the best.
Stiff competition comes from the Caribbean beaches south of Limón down
to the border with Panama – specifically Cahuita and Puerto Viejo.
