Travel, Vacation and Adventure Guide to Costa Rica

I was well acquainted with the gag that if you look like your passport picture you need a vacation. But I was unprepared for the preponderance of thug-like pictures I found in the course of processing them. ~ Frances G. Knight, Director US Passport Division

US passport application forms can be obtained at major post offices, courthouses or federal passport offices in larger metropolitan areas. You can also download an application from the State Department at http:// travel.state.gov. Apply two or three months before your trip. The site above also offers tons of information, including a very useful Consular Information Sheet that contains special safety or health alerts. Canadians can apply at the Central Passport Office in Ottawa, 800/567-6868. For Brits itís the London Passport Office, 0171- 271-3000.

US Passport Agencies If you didnít leave it until the last minute, apply for an American passport through your local Clerk of Court or post office. Federal Passport Agencies tend to have long lines during the busiest months.
