Lomas Barbudal The Reserva Agroecologica de San Ramón is more commonly known as Lomas Barbudal, or Bearded Hills. It’s just 15 km/9.3 miles southwest of Bagaces – look for a dirt road just north of Bagaces and follow it for six km/3.7 miles. Open only in the dry season, this bird and animal refuge also boasts a diverse plant life, including rare cannonball trees (balas de canón), upon whose pendulous fruit scarlet macaws come from Palo Verde to dine. Camping is permitted, but the park has only rudimentary facilities. You can get a taxi from Bagaces. Admission, US $25.
