If nothing else, San José offers a great variety of eating establishments for all tastes. One of the most enjoyable things we do on our vacation is to find new “favorite” places to eat. Our personal criteria are quite flexible – sometimes we look for ambiance, service, the character of the place, or even the characters in the place. On other days we search for the best view or value. In every case we look for quality food. Don’t forget, several of the hotels above have very fine dining rooms for all three meals; we also mention some good places to nosh in the Nightlife section. The following eateries should provide you with a pleasing combination of good food, good vibes and good times.

Except where noted, reservations are not usually necessary unless you have a large party or specific needs.

Although we made every effort to be as thorough, complete and as accurate as possible, things change in Costa Rica – sometimes muy rapido. Prices change faster than anything, so we indicate relative price levels here, using dollar signs.
